Copyright (c) 2013 Peter Mutiso

Are you a student and wish to get a loan for your studies? Do not worry; there are loans that are available for you. They are made very flexible to suit your needs. Since most of the students do not work, they are not expected to pay the money immediately. They are however, supposed to repay the loan immediately they start earning. Here are some of the easiest ways to get the loan as a student. Know how much you want. It is very obvious that before obtaining that loan, you must know how much you need. You cannot blindly decide you want a loan but do not know how much. After deciding on how much loan you want to take to fund your studies, shop around in order to get a lender that has the best deal. There are very many lenders out there who are willing to lend students some loan. It is however your choice to decide on which lender to get the loan from.

When deciding on how much you need to borrow, bear in mind that you will need to repay the loan as soon as you are done with your studies. These loans are made so flexible that you will start repaying the loan after completion of studies. At the beginning it may seem as a very long time. You will be surprised with how time flies. That is why you need to calculate how much you will be needed to pay before obtaining the loan. It is important for you to borrow a loan that you are capable of repaying without compromising your lifestyle. This type of personal loan can seem as a very good deal at first but if caution is not taken you might find yourself working for the loan when it comes to repayment.

As a student you could be nave, you may not know on the important details to check on before taking that loan. Terms like Annual Percentage Rate (APR) could be new to some people especially if they are not business oriented. They will therefore just decide on the amount of personal loan they want and they go for it. If you are this kind of a person and you are not sure of your decisions, consult your accountant or an economist for that matter. He will advise you accordingly in matters pertaining to the loan.

When consulting, Annual Percentage Rate is the major issue to dwell on. It may not make sense at that time but it will once you start paying the loan. There is no need for you to enjoy the loan now only for you to suffer later when repaying simply because you were ignorant. Which one is better any way, to pay a small fee for the consultation or to save that small amount and end up paying ten times the amount in the future? Be wise enough to make the right choice before deciding on the amount of personal loan you want to take.

Customize your loan. As you shop around for the lender with the best deal, tailor you loan to best suit your needs and ability to repay the personal loan. As you decide on the which lender to chose, make sure he allows you to chose the amount of loan you want and which type of personal loan you prefer. Is it secured personal loan or unsecured personal loan? You should also check whether the rates are fixed or variable. These are the variables to consider when shopping for the right place to borrow.

As a student you may not know this because you have not been exposed to the real world yet. Let me educate you. The world outside there is not as simple as it looks. Everybody is out there to benefit themselves and no one else. With this in mind, as you shop for that best place to get the loan from, know that the lender will only try to benefit them. These lenders will try as much as they can to talk you out of what you want to what they want. They will trick you in to thinking that they are doing it for you. They will say how much they care for you and that they value you as a customer. Truth of the matter is that they are doing all this for themselves.

Another important aspect as you try to customize your student personal loan, make sure you know about the repayment terms and conditions before signing that contract. Make sure you are not doing it for the lender but for yourself. If after your studies you will be able to repay the loan weekly, fortnight or even monthly. Make sure you agree and all that is stated in the contract before signing it. You may not take it seriously but you should. You may decide to pay the loan monthly as signed in the contract.

When you start working, you decide to repay the loan weekly. This could cost you a lot. Some lenders like banks do not allow you to change the contract agreement. You will pay a huge penalty if you decide to repay the loan before the agreed time. If it was a five year loan, then that is how it will be unless you are willing to pay the penalty which is not a small amount of money.

Bearing in mind that after school it is when everyone tries to fix their life by either buying a house or just doing something for you future. This is not the time to waste money paying for a penalty. If you are sure of the period, then there is no problem at all but if you are not sure of your situation after college chose a period that will suit you. Trust me when I tell you to take caution while you still can. Do not wait only for you to say I wish I knew; I warned you.

Easy application Students’ personal loans can also be as easily acquired as the other type of personal loans. Just like the other personal loans, you can apply them online. It is a matter of going to web sites that offers such loans and apply. This is one of the easiest way to get student personal loan. You will be able to send a request and get a feed back almost immediately. Unlike other lenders, you will not wait for days in order for you to get a feedback. That is why we have technology any way, to make work easier and faster.

I should also warn you about malicious people who are out there to take advantage of the nave. They will open these web sites just to make money out of it. They will make their offers look very attractive so you can fall for them. Be warned, these web sites charge very high Annual Percentage Rates. They do so because of the shortest time period they have used to grant you the loan. Unless you need the money urgently to close a deal or something of the sort, do not fall for these offers. These interest rates are just ridiculous. These web sites will offer you payday loan. That is how attractive they look but as a student, there are better offers for you out there than those. Yes I agree that they are hassle free but when repaying the loan it is absolutely not a good feeling.

Another easier way to get a student personal loan is by visiting the lender face to face. You could go to a bank where you have opened your savings account or any other bank. Most of the banks have options for the students and with good offers. It is however very important as you strike that deal with them. You should be able to differentiate between a secured personal loan and an unsecured personal loan. A secured personal loan is that which the lender will ask for a property to back up your loan.

This collateral comes in form of a house, land, a car and so forth. An unsecured personal loan on the other hand does not have this kind of a back. You do not need collateral in order to get it. It is very tricky if you are not sure of these terms and like I have mentioned earlier consult an accountant or someone who is conversant with such terms.

The Federal Stafford Loan is a financial aid program that can help you out with difficulties. There are many benefits for students and families who apply for this loan. As the loan is approved by the federal government you can be sure of getting good help and advice about the various terms and benefits you can expect to get.

Since the Federal Stafford Student loan is a low cost loan it is very popular with many prospective students. The College Board which supervises this student loan also offers a subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans. There are differences in both of these loan plans.

You will be able to find all of these differences when you check out the details about the Federal Stafford Student Loan program on their web site. The main item that you will need to look out for is the amount of time that you will need in order to pay back the entire loan. You should check out the interest you may have to pay back as well.

There are certain criteria that needs to be fulfilled in order for you to be able to apply for this Stafford Loan. In the first step you will need to be a US citizen or barring that an eligible non-citizen. You should have submitted a FAFSA form and it should have been accepted.

If you are applying for a Subsidized Stafford Loan your financial status needs to be determined by your school. Besides this the university that you are hoping to enter should be participating in the Federal Family Education Loan Program. You will need to plan on being a full time student or a half time student. The final criteria that you should have fulfilled are that of not being in default on any educational loan or a refund on an educational grant.

You will only be allowed to become a Stafford Loan student after all of these criteria have been fulfilled. Once these conditions have been accepted by the College Board you can then choose which of the two loans you will feel more comfortable about repaying. In this consideration you may want to see if there are any benefits you will be able to take advantage of during your entire student loan.

While there are many different student loans that you can apply for they are not as well known as the Stafford Loan. When you apply to this program you can be sure that you are getting the real deal. With a Stafford Loan you will have the time to complete your education with no worries about money and the time to pay your loan back in full.

Fixing a Parent Loan Program Hurt Black Students

The number of black students enrolled at four-year universities and colleges across the United States declined in 2012-13, a year after the federal government tightened credit standards for issuing loans to parents. The declines for blacks were greater than for students of other races and ethnicities, according to a quantitative analysis conducted for the U.S. Department of Education’s research arm and published April 14.
Historically black colleges and universities, where black students make up more than 80 percent of the student body, were particularly hard hit. The number of recipients of federal parent loans fell 46 percent, compared to a 29 percent drop at other colleges that educate students from low-income families.* The steep fall in college loans coincided with a 3.4 percent drop in the number of students enrolled at historically black schools, a loss of almost 100 students per institution on average.
Throughout the United States, universities that serve low-income student populations saw a 1.5 percent drop in black students, on average, or about 12 fewer black students per institution. Universities and colleges that serve higher-income students saw a 0.6 percent drop in black students, on average, or about three per institution.
“This is a tough, touchy issue,” said Rachel Fishman, a policy analyst at the New America Foundation. “I agree the numbers don’t look good and you’re turning off access to higher education. But these loans were saddling low-income parents with debt they couldn’t afford to repay.”
Better types of loan programs are being debated, but haven’t yet been created. As it stands now, the federal government caps the amount of money that undergraduates can borrow each year, and these maximum amounts are often not enough to pay for college. Many students turn to their parents, who are allowed to borrow the full cost of attendance under the federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) program. With soaring tuition, this parent loan program has become a major source of college financing. Thirteen percent of all dependent undergraduates have parents with PLUS loans. Each loan averages almost $ 13,000 a year.
Default rates grew alarmingly high on these parent loans. And in 2011, the federal government quietly changed its underwriting standards and began denying PLUS loans to parents with marred credit histories. A delinquent mortgage payment or medical bill during the financial crisis would have been reason to deny a loan. Denials spiked, especially among black families. Historically black colleges saw the impact immediately, and complained.
A group of these colleges asked a regional unit of the Institute of Educational Sciences, the Education Department’s research arm, to calculate exactly what the consequences were. The result is this analysis, “Changes in financial aid and student enrollment at historically Black colleges and universities after the tightening of PLUS credit standards,” conducted by Mathematica Policy Research.
Other types of financial aid, such as direct Education loan and work-study programs, did rise, but not enough to replace the lost dollars from these federal parent loans, the study found.
The study looked at only four-year nonprofit colleges and universities. It is possible that the black students who couldn’t get enough loans through their parents to afford a four-year school ended up going to a two-year community college. But Matthew Johnson, one of the authors, pointed out that enrollments declined at community colleges during this time period, and it’s unlikely that all of these black students found a more affordable college to attend.
Johnson also investigated whether something else other than changes to the parent loan program – such as changing economic conditions or housing prices – might have caused the decline in the number of black college students, but couldn’t find any other factor.
“The signs kind of point this way. It was the PLUS loans changes that had a significant association with declines in black in enrollment,” said Teresa Duncan, director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Education Laboratory of the Institute of Educational Sciences, which commissioned the study.
Source: https://www.evernote.com/shard/s647/sh/aacfd302-6d74-42e4-99fd-4108dbdca9c8/3663a0906204b2b94b4317baa3c5183b

Hope for Students with Poor Credit

Students with poor credit do not despair. A college education does not have to be a farfetched dream. There are a number of options available to help those with poor credit when paying for their education. One of the most attractive alternatives for students with poor credit is a federal loan. federal loans are designed on the premise that most students planning to enter college are doing so straight from high school, and more than likely do not yet have a credit rating. The Stafford loan, under the US Department of Education, therefore does not even take into account a student’s credit rating to qualify for a loan. Bad credit may, however, play a factor in qualifying for these loans if a student has failed to pay a federally granted student loan in the past.

Stafford Loans are offered as either subsidized or unsubsidized. The subsidized Stafford Loan is based on need and the government pays the interest while the student is still in school. The unsubsidized Stafford Loan is available to all students but the borrower is responsible for the interest. A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest loan in which the amount of the loan is determined by the college the student will attend. Students with bad credit might also want to explore federal grants such as the Pell Grant and the Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant, which award funding dependent on the student’s need.

Students with bad credit can also find loans to “pass the buck” to their parents. For example, the PLUS (Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students) Loan is granted to parents to help cover the amount they would forfeit to pay for college expenses. Parent loans, however, usually need to be repaid sooner than Stafford Loans. On the whole, federal loans are a better option for students with bad credit because their requirements are less stringent than most banks or lending agencies. They also do not require a co-signer and can be used whether or not you have financial need.

Private loans are another route one can take to the gates of higher education. Although these are not guaranteed by the federal government, they can offer higher lending limits. One’s credit history is a factor in qualifying for a private loan, so students with no credit history or bad credit may find it difficult to benefit from a private lender. A co-signer with good credit however, can back up the borrower as well as open the doors to more favorable terms. One disadvantage to private loans is that they tend to cost more in the long run, as private lenders usually charge higher fees. Students with bad credit who are planning to pursue a career that has the potential to bring in a high income, such as law and medicine, might be treated more favorably by private lenders.

Students should take heart that they are not limited to choosing between a private or a federal loan. Students can raise enough money to finance college through a combination of both. Once qualifying for a loan package though, students should not rest on their laurels; but instead, take the opportunity to find ways to make the repayment of these loans more favorable to their situation. Even though loans given to students with poor credit have a higher interest rate, they are usually payable after the student graduates and has begun to earn an income. Students should therefore take their loan repayment schedule as a chance to improve their credit rating. One step to a better credit score is to consolidate your student loans. Consolidating loans has many advantages including lower monthly payments, a longer repayment period, and fewer creditors in your credit history.

Are Federal Consolidation Loans What Students Need?

Have you heard about federal consolidation loans? Are you considering one, but aren’t sure if it would be a help or a hindrance to your present financial situation? Don’t worry, you are not alone. Thousands of college seniors across the United States are facing the same thing that you are. They are just about ready to step into a new job, and they don’t have any idea how they are going to be able to pay off the different monthly loan payments they have and still meet their monthly living expenses.

The quickest solution to the problem is to take out a consolidation loan. This will join all of your individual loans into one loan with a fixed interest rate. By doing this you will only have one monthly loan payment.

If you want relief from high monthly payments, extra benefits and the ability to manage your finances, choose a consolidation loan. It will begin helping you right from the very beginning. You pay no hidden charges or application fees and there are no embarrassing credit checks.

The biggest advantage of consolidating your federal loans is that your monthly loan payment will be lower. On the web site studentloanconsolidator.com it shows that if a student owes $ 40,000 in federal loans, the individual monthly loan payments will equal $ 456.64. However, if he consolidates them into a single loan, the monthly payment would be just $ 275.10. That equals a monthly savings of $ 181.53!

You don’t have to worry about not receiving a federal consolidation loan. There is no credit check, and it’s very simple to apply. The only things you will need are your loan information and your 4 digit FAFSA pin number. When you fill out the application, they will give you several repayment plans you can choose from. Be sure to investigate the individual plans before you go so you’ll know which one you want to use.

Another advantage of consolidating all of your federal student loans is that you have the opportunity to extend your loan repayment from the minimum 10 years up to 30 years. This is another way you can lower your monthly payments. The lower payments will give you more money for living expenses. This type of loan has even more advantages. You won’t be penalized for paying it off quicker. It will simply reduce the number of months you have to pay.

Federal consolidation loans can be a tremendous help to college seniors who are ready to graduate. It will give them the opportunity to become established in their new job without being under undue financial pressure. You won’t regret the decision to consolidate your federal loans once you begin to experience the financial freedom it will bring.

Admission season special: A students’ guide on how to get a student loan

Is education an ‘essential item’? It may not be included in the list of such items, but the fact is it is an essential item. As all other items in the list, this too has been bitten by inflation and quality education is almost out of bounds for many because of the cost factors.

Consider this: The same engineering and medical degrees, which used to cost you Rs 2-3 lakh per semester earlier, now cost Rs 4-5 lakh. MBA costs more than Rs 25 lakh in premium colleges.

And, even if the student has managed to secure the coveted seat in a course of her choice, the cost of higher education has risen over the years and how. If you are a parent or a student looking for an education loan, this admission season, here are five things you better keep in mind.

Who can get a loan: Only Indian citizens can avail an education loan. It can be availed by the student with parents/guardians as co-applicants, or by the parent for a child for studies in India or abroad.

Loan options for courses and institutions: Most banks will give you an education loan, only if you meet certain criteria’s. This means, you can get loan if you are planning to study in a recognized institute, especially for courses which are in demand like MBA, medical studies and engineering and other vocational courses. If you are planning for an admission in a less reputable college or an offbeat course, it makes sense to get a loan from a cooperative bank or financial services institutes like Avanse. Institutes like these are more open to such courses compared to approaching a public sector bank.

Loan sizes vary: The size of the loan you can take will depend where you plan to study. For most courses in India, you can get a bank loan of up to Rs 10 lakh. For a course in a university abroad, the loan amount could go up to Rs 20 lakh. Other financial institutes which offer education loans like Credila and Avanse offer a higher amount of education loan. While some lenders may offer you 100 percent finance. There are those who ask you to set aside 5-15 percent of the loan amount as margin money. Almost all banks ask for a collateral or co-application in case of a higher loan amount, which is between Rs 4 lakh to Rs 7.5 lakh, depending on the lender. Any immovable property like your house, fixed deposits, insurance policies, National Savings Certificates and alike are accepted as collateral.

Fees and cost: If you are a female candidate, one way to reduce the cost of your loan is to take it from a public sector bank. They usually give a 50- 100 basis point discount on interest rate. The rate of interest varies amongst lenders and is usually in the range of 11 to 16 percent per annum. The processing fee is around 2 percent, but if you have secured admission in a premium course at a premium college where your future earning potential is high, you can also bargain with the lender to decrease or waive off the processing fees.

Loan repayment criteria: Student loan comes with a moratorium. This simply means the period during which you don’t need to repay the loan. This starts while you are studying the course and extends up to a year after the course is completed. If you get a job immediately after this period, the moratorium ends within six months of being employed. Once the moratorium period is over, you get seven years to repay the loan. But, we suggest that instead of utilizing the moratorium period, it’s better to start making payments even during the duration of the course. Reason being, with some lenders if you pay off the interest component of the loan during the course, you can get an interest waiver of up to 1 percent for the moratorium period.

Federal Student Loans – Amazing Value For Students Who Need Financial Help

Federal student loans offer students in the U.S. the largest source of need-based loans. They allow students to obtain a loan with simple interest and a government guarantee. In applying for such loans, students do not need to have any type of collateral.

The big plus of all federal student loans, is the promise of an in-school interest subsidy. That means that the federal government pays the interest on the loan while the student is still in school. The government also pays that interest during the first six months after the loan recipient is out of school.

The Types of Federal Student Loans

Students should understand that there are number of different federal student loans. Some students get a Perkins Loan. When a student is awarded a Perkins Loan, then his or her chosen school gets the loan money. The school then transfers that money to the student’s account in the form of a credit. Perkins loans have an interest rate of 5%.

Some students are awarded a Stafford Loan. This is a subsidized loan. The Stafford Loan comes (at the time of writing), with an interest rate of 6.8%. The student awarded a Stafford Loan can choose the bank that will be lending the money for that loan. The lender then sends that money to the student’s school. Again the school transfers that money to the student’s account in the form of a credit.

Direct Student Loans and Loan Information

Some federal loans are direct loans. When a student gets a direct loan, then the government is the lender of the loan money.

These loans can be given to citizens or to permanent residents. At one time, some of the students awarded federal loans still lacked a full understanding of the loan process in the U.S. And at that time, about 25 years ago, students of course could not look to the Internet for information on federal student loans.

Without easy access to information, some students lacked an understanding of the loan provisions, and failed to get the best loan to suit them.

Interest Reduction on Federal Student Loans

Some students who have benefited from these loans have had the opportunity to get an interest reduction. That reduction is given to loan recipients who have chosen to use a direct debit to make payments on the loan. The extent of that reduction depends on the level of education attained by the student.

Federal student loans for undergraduates typically offer a 1% interest rate reduction for agreement to direct debit and for graduate students they usually provide a 1.5% rate reduction to any such loan recipient who is willing to make payments by direct debit.

What Federal Student Loans Offer To Students

Having a dilemma on how to pay for your college tuition? If your answer is yes, then you’re not alone and just one among the many countless students who are in dire need of financial aid to achieve their dreams of getting and finishing a good college education. If you’ve already ruled out the possibility of getting any form of scholarship or grant, then you might want to explore a federal student loan, which comes in two types: private and federal.

Of the two, federal student loans should be the first option a student should look into as these have the governments backing, which can be readily availed through any educational institution, banks, and lenders through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). Compared to private lending companies, it has lower interest rates, extended repayment periods, many repayment scheme options, and lower credit requirements. To get a hold of a federal student loan, some requirements should be fulfilled prior to submission, such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) that is just within reach through its website.

The most common federal student loan is the Stafford Loan that offers the lowest-cost to pay for a college education. It has no strict requirement for a loaner to show the financial need, so is open for either graduate and undergraduate students who are enrolled or planning to enroll at least half-time. The loan package has a fixed monthly interest rate that can be divided into two categories: subsidized and unsubsidized. With the first, the government takes care of the interest payments during the period the student is in school; while with the second, the student personally pays for the accrued interest but can defer doing so until graduation.

The Federal Perkins Loan, on the other hand, offers a very low, fixed interest rate at 5% for all those who show “exceptional” financial need for it, for both undergraduate and graduate students. The student should be enrolled in an eligible school and at least half-time in a degree program. They should also show satisfactory academic progress, with no pending defaults on Title IV related loans or grants, and fulfills all Selective Service requirements. The student receives payment, usually by check directly from the school, or is debited directly to the school charges, and of which is given in two payments for the whole academic year. Again, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid should be submitted accordingly.

It is important to do some little research to get a good idea on what type of federal student loan fits your specific needs. With a federal student loan, any prospective student can enroll in the course of their choice and fulfill all financial requirements up to the day of graduation without being burdened unnecessarily.

Student Loan Refinance And Its Value To Students

Student Loan Refinancing is a common practice among graduates who are finding they can get lower rate loans after graduating than they could as students. One great reason to refinance student loans is to consolidate them into a single monthly bill at a fixed rate of interest. This can extend time to repay and make monthly payments smaller.

There are basically two types of Student Loans: Federal Student Loans and private loans. Federal loans are based on the financial need of the student and are backed by the US government. Legally, student loans subsidized by the government can only be refinanced following graduation. At that time it is a great opportunity to refinance and lock into a lower rate of interest . Also, they can be refinanced at far lower interest rates than private loans. Private loans are personal consumer loans and are refinanced at market rates.

The main motive of Student Loan Refinancing is to reduce monthly payments to the lender. Generally the students borrow more than one kind of loans during their educational term. If the student has borrowed more than one loan then refinancing can be done by consolidating these loans, also known as debt consolidation. One main thing to be kept in mind before debt consolidation is that the student has to see that federal and private loans are not combined. If both these loans are consolidated, the interest on the combined principal may turn out to be more than the total interest of the accrued loans considered separately. So it is always economical not to consolidate federal loans and private loans. This is an important aspect to be kept in mind.

If you are looking torefinance student loan to fit your budget and save on interest payments there are loan professionals who can help. By extending your loan term your loan term it is possible to spend upwards of 50 percent less every month on your student loan payments. It is typical for those who refinance student loans to benefit from a rate drop of one percent after couple years of on-time payments on the new refinanced loan. This provides another incentive for refinancing if you do not anticipate paying off your student loans in less than a couple of years. Your quote is a free no obligation estimate of how much you can save monthly by consolidating your loans to a new interest rate. Consolidated loans are calculated as the weighted average of your loans rounded up 1/8th of a percentage point and can be amortized over as long thirty years of repayment

The amount saved via refinancing depends on the amount you are refinancing. However student refinancing and consolidating their student loans into a single payment can often spend half of what they would otherwise. This makes the bills much more manageable to pay monthly but extends the total time required to pay off the loan. Your new interest rate will depend on the rate of your old student loan. If you have multiple student loans you are consolidating the rate is typically determined by taking the weighted interest rate of your student loans. If better interest rates are available than when you took out the loans originally you can save money over the life of the new loan with lower payments
There are companies offering private loans to students.Private loans are based on the credit history of the student or the student\’s parents or guardians. Parents or guardians are the co-endorsers in the Refinance agreement and assume equal responsibility for repayment of the loan. However, they are not the beneficiaries. Students with good credit histories stand a better chance than others. So before refinancing the students and the co-signers should see that their credit histories are in good place. So credit reports must be brushed up and any bugs must be fixed. Before finalizing the lender, quotes from other lenders must be reviewed.

Most Student Loans allow monthly repayments that stretch over 14-35 years and are repaid after the student graduates from the program or the course for which the loan was sought. But the better the faster. The longer period of repayment implies an expensive loan. So speed up loan repayment to save thousand of your dollars.

Proper use of this financial instrument depends very much on the quality of information upon which any refinancing decisions are based.

A Quick Look At The Benefits Of A Student Loan Calculator For Students

After finishing school, people have enough on their mind just trying to find a job. Calculating all of the money you still have to pay off and how long it will take can be very hard. Instead of trying to do it yourself, use a student loan calculator and make sure your numbers are correct.

Set aside a certain amount of time to figure out your finances without any distractions. There are a few things that you will need in front of your before you can take advantage of this useful device. Firstly, you will have to have an idea of how much money you borrowed while you were studying in school. You can find this total on your school bills that you should have saved and organized.

Then, depending on your estimated future income, you will have to decide what payment period you want. If you choose a shorter amount of time, you will have to pay less interest, but the monthly payments will be higher. A payment period of 5 years is pretty short depending on how much you owe. If you choose a longer period like 10 or 25 years, you will have much larger interest payments over time, but smaller monthly payments.

Next you will have to determine the interest rates of the lump sums you borrowed. Remember that if you borrowed from multiple different places, you may have different interest rates. You will have to calculate each of the lump sums separately if they have different rates. Make an organized list of all of the aforementioned information before you sit down in front of the device to start calculating.

The device is pretty self explanatory. You need to enter in the total amount in the section labeled “total amount”. You should enter in the repayment period in the section titled so, and the interest rate in the appropriate box. If you are having trouble finding the appropriate boxes or have any questions about what the terms mean, there should be a help button on the screen that will answer your question.

Your calculation will looks something like the content that follows. For people who borrowed around $ 20,000 in order to study, a payment period of 5 years is pretty short. However, start by choosing a payment period of 5 years just to see if you can handle it. A pretty common interest rate is about 7%. Enter in all of that information and you will get a total of $ 396. This is the amount you will have to pay per month.

Do not panic if the output you get is much higher than you expected. All you have to do is change the payment period. Maybe paying off your owed money in 5 years is unrealistic and you would do better with a 10 year plan. Type this option into the device and see if you like the results.

Choose a monthly payment that you know you can afford and enter it in. Student loan calculators can work backwards as well, allowing you to calculate what payment period you should choose. This is one of the best ways to get trustworthy figures. You can use this tool to get information quickly to help you understand how to best plan financially to repay any loans.
